The Ten Commandments begin not with what we must do, but with what God has already done—God has rescued and set us free. Because God has loved us first, our faithful response is to love God above everything else, refusing to let even good things like money, careers, pleasures, or relationships become ultimate things. Putting God first means saying yes to God before we say yes to anything or anyone else.
